Netsyslab Job Opportunities

What does a Netsys Lab Worker Do?

A Networking Lab Worker is responsible for many tasks during their shifts each quarter. They are responsible for items such as cleaning and maintenance of the labs, troubleshooting and repairing PC's and networking equipment, checking out of equipment to students, class lab preparation, sign-offs and many other activities. Additionally, lab workers may be assigned to "teams" and be responsible for maintenance, upgrades, modifications and creation of the various lab infrastructure(s). Lab Workers learn many skills and are a vital part of the running of the labs for student use.
Hiring is done each quarter and normally interviews are performed during the last 2 weeks of each quarter for the next quarter. Open positions are entirely dependent upon:

  • Lab workers who will be on co-op the next quarter
  • Lab workers who are graduating
  • Open hours and coverage needed for the next quarter

Students interested in becoming a lab worker should have the following skills and knowledge.

  • Basic PC hardware and troubleshooting skills

What is involved in a Summer Netsyslab Co-op?

Each year, the NSSA netsyslabs supports 2 - 3 co-op positions in the labs. These positions are primarily for NSSA and IT students. During the summer, the labs are extremely busy preparing for the new school year. We will normally during the course of the summer create new or update ghost images for each lab, move PC's for cascade and receive new computers in, modify infrastructure (previously we implemented PXE boot, built labs, added imaging and network lines, etc.), and many other tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for students to receive practical knowledge in their chosen fields and receive co-operative education credit at the same time. Pay Range is $10 - $12 an hour.

What does a Teaching Assistant (TA) Do?

Under the instruction of a faculty member, a Teaching Assistant will provide support and assistance to students during a class lab for completion of student activities.
Students who are considered for a Teaching Assistant position each quarter must meet the following qualifications:
