Networking and Systems Administration for Computing Majors Minor

Who is Eligible?

Students in:

  • Computer Engineering
  • Computer Engineering Technology
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Information Technology
  • Software Engineering
  • Telecommunications Engineering Technology
  • Any other undergraduate who has taken the prerequisite programming, math, and computer hardware courses.

Curriculum:

The minor in networking and systems administration is comprised of a sequence of courses that will provide computing students outside of the NSSA department with a firm foundation in networking and/or systems administration. Computer networks and the systems attached to these networks have become ubiquitous. Therefore knowledge of how copmputer networks function, their administration, and the administration of the systems attached to them can be of value to every computing professional since their work will be impacted in some way by computer networks and computer systems.

General Policies and Requirements:

  • Only undergraduate matriculated students may enroll in the minor.
  • The minor consists of five courses and a minimum of 20 credit hours.
  • At least 12 credit hours must consist of coures not required by the the students home program.
  • 12 credit hours must be completed in residence at RIT.
  • Students requesting this minor need to meet with the NSSA department Undergraduate Program Coordinator who serves as the faculty advisor for the minor.
  • Students requesting this minor must have the Minor Authorization Form signed by the NSSA department Undergraduate Program Coordinator and submit the signed and completed form to their home department for processing.
  • Posting the of the minor on a student's transcript requires a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in the minor courses.
  • A minor may not be added after graduation.
